Caverns of Sonora
This was a bit off the beaten path, so we are always concerned about the road and whether the big rig can handle it, but it was easy peasy, and this place even had a little RV Park that we managed to squeeze into! This place had an epic gift shop, delicious fudge, but most importantly, the coolest cave system we had ever seen, but we also didn’t have much to compare it too haha.
There was an emergency exit about half way through and with the heat (the cave was roughly 6000 degrees haha) and general tiredness, Percy was not handling the trek very well, so him and Clarence exited, but Hugh, Declan, Waylon and I (Karli) kept on trucking with Jim and Ladonna (see photo where Hugh insisted on us taking a group shot…so cute) they helped me wrangle the kiddos (mostly Waylon haha). They have a very strict policy on not touching the walls of the cave, I was VERY worried about Waylon, but he did so good. He’s loving the tourist life and has proven to be a very curious kid at all of our stops, its been wonderful. And of course Hughie knew the answers to a lot of the questions, but learned a ton from our tour guide as well. The total trip through the cave is usually 1h45m but we took roughly 2h15 minutes with the stops and dealing with the kids, the couple we were with were actually just so kind about it (they also have lot of grandkids, and had 4 kids of their own).
Notice the shot of Percy sleeping on the couch, that is how we found him after coming out of the cave.
